Edexcel IGCSE Human Biology Past Papers with Mark Schemes [PDFs]

The Pearson Edexcel International GCSE in Human Biology (4HB1) was first taught in September 2017, with first examinations in June 2019. This qualification is assessed through two externally-marked written examination papers, each worth 50% of the total grade. Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are 1 hour and 45 minutes long, with 90 marks each. The exams include multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, calculations, and extended response questions. Students can use calculators in both examinations. The papers are available in November and June examination series.

The course covers 12 content areas: Cells and tissues, Biological molecules, Movement of substances in and out of cells, Bones, muscles and joints, Coordination, Nutrition and energy, Respiration, Gas exchange, Internal transport, Homeostatic mechanisms, Reproduction and heredity, and Disease. This qualification aims to help students learn about human body systems, develop practical skills, and prepare for advanced courses in biology or careers in fields like medicine, dentistry, physiology, genetics, and epidemiology. The course includes practical investigations that develop experimental skills, which are assessed through written examinations. The qualification is graded on a nine-point scale from 9 to 1, where 9 is the highest grade.
